Welcome From the Program Director
Welcome and thank you for visiting the University
of Missouri Department of Psychiatry Residency Training Program. The University
of Missouri Psychiatry Residency Training Program is a fully accredited 4
year residency with available fellowships in Child and Adolescent, Geriatric,
and Forensic Psychiatry. We provide excellent clinical training on inpatient,
outpatient, emergency, consultation-liaison, addictions, geriatrics, and child
and adolescent services, as well as in a variety of specialized and elective
settings.
Here at the University of Missouri, we offer
a balanced program with Psychotherapy and biological aspects of Psychiatry
both emphasized from early on in training. Our residents develop a wide range
of clinical skills which enable them to practice effective psychiatry in a
wide range of settings. Clinical experience is gained at the University Hospital,
Mid Missouri Mental Health Center, Harry S. Truman VA Hospital, Fulton State
Hospital, University of Missouri outpatient psychiatry and a variety of community
psychiatry rotations. Excellent supervision and didactics are provided throughout
the training years and clinical experiences.
The greatest strength of our Department is our
commitment to a quality environment in which our residents can flourish. Residents
are actively involved in residency training issues and decisions. We constantly
evaluate their input and work to continually improve our program. We have
a broad range of faculty and teach in a highly supportive environment. Because
of the diverse interests of our faculty and the many areas of strength within
the department, we are interested in and attract residents with a wide variety
of backgrounds and interests. Our goal is to nurture the specific interests
of each resident and help them reach their ultimate goals and potentials in
whatever way possible. Whether it be research, clinical subspecialty, fellowships,
education or other interests, we strive to make these dreams a reality for
our residents.
