PGY!
Residents learning Psychiatric Neuroanatomy with the help of Pathology Chairman, Douglas Anthony MD, and Bernard Beitman MD.

PGY1

The PGY I is the internship year of the program.  Residents complete the required four month medicine rotation primarily with the Department of Internal Medicine, but may complete 1 to 2 months of the medicine requirement with the Department of Child Health.  Psychiatry rotations during the first year include emergency psychiatry, consultation liaison/ECT/ECT, child psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and psychiatry inpatient units.

First Year Call Requirements

Exposure to the call system for the first year resident begins with ‘buddy” calls.  Buddy call is a progressive experience that will familiarize the new resident to call.   From observing the resident on call during their first call, the new resident will progress to handling the call as the senior resident observes.  Generally there are three to four buddy calls before the new resident is scheduled for call.  First year residents will also be assigned to the jeopardy call schedule.

Call during the first year averages 4-5 calls per month, jeopardy, and one 24 hour holiday call.
